The Work and Travel Loan Program is entirely supported by private
donations. If you would like to enable a Turkmen student to travel to
the United States on this program, the following options are available:
1) Assist TYCVF in identifying a safe and quality summer job opportunity
for loan recipients.
2) Volunteer as a “host-family” for a loan recipient during
their summer in the United States.
3) Donate to support the Work and Travel Loan Program. Community Group
and Corporate sponsorship packages available.
The Work and Travel Loan Program is a no-interest loan program for
Turkmen college students who wish to participate in the U.S.
State Department’s
Work Travel Program. This program was launched in 2011 to lower
the entry barrier for Turkmen students to take advantage of this opportunity.
With average out of pocket costs for program participation ranging
from $2000-$3000, the Work Travel Program is out of reach for the vast
majority of Turkmen students.
Students use the loan to pay for upfront costs such as program/visa
fees and airfare; they repay the loan at the end of the summer with earnings
from their summer work. This program provides Turkmen college students
with valuable work experience as well as an opportunity to travel in
the United States and improve their English skills.
