The Community Development Program provides small grants to support community service projects organized by students (15-25) in Turkmenistan. Peace Corps Volunteers currently serving in Turkmenistan are also welcome to apply. Students are able to propose projects that promote community engagement, unique solutions to community challenges and that provide the applicant with leadership and project management experience. This program is as equally focused on the results of the projects themselves as it is on mentoring the grant applicant through the entire process of applying for a grant and completing their project.

Each grant applicant is assigned a grant “mentor” to work directly with them to develop the grant application into a viable and focused project. The goal of this program is to work with applicants until we can say “yes” to their funding request.

The Community Development Program has funded projects in all five velayats of Turkmenistan and has supported projects that include:

1. Regional Baseball Tournament
2. Seatbelt Safety Awareness Project
3. Community Theatre Program

Applications are made available on our website, usually during the summer months. Only projects taking place inside Turkmenistan can be funded.
